Apifera Farm

a sanctuary for healing both animal and human

Apifera Farm is a non profit animal sanctuary floating off the coast of mid coast Maine. Our mission is to not only help and heal animals in need, but also to share our animals with the elder people of our community for healing and joy. Many of the animals we take on are from elder people who have had to enter a home, or have become unable to care for their animals due to health issues.

We have been helping animals since 2004 and in 2016 we moved our farm from oregon to Maine. It is here we transitioned into a non profit and also made our mission to also help people needing healing. We began by visiting The Greens with our little goat Opie and that led to work with other retirement homes where we take our llama and ponies and now our small animal healers: bunnies, dogs and more.

In 2024, we built another separate Healing Barn, a 24” x 24” structure to enable us to have year round, comfortable visits bringing animals and elders/special needs people together. We also plan to have workshops on grieving and healing utilizing animals and Katherine’s art. Watch our site and social media as that all develops.

Apifera Farm is owned and operated by Katherine and Martyn Dunn. Katherine is a writer/artist and has written many books about her animal work [for sale on her art store site]. Martyn is a landscaper and is an integral caretaker for the farm’s grounds, gardens and infrastructure. They do not take salaries and all donations go directly to the non profit.

Sharing the animals through visits, stories and art is my way to add healing to the world.
